Symptoms

When you configure Microsoft Outlook 2010 to use a custom MAPI message store, the folders in the navigation pane are not displayed in a custom order that the MAPI message store defines.

Cause

This issue occurs because the custom MAPI message store ignores the sort request on hierarchy tables. If you configure an earlier version of Outlook 2010 to use the custom MAPI message store, the folders in the navigation pane are displayed in a custom order that the MAPI message store defines. When you configure Outlook 2010 to use the custom MAPI message store, Outlook 2010 does not sort the folders in the navigation pane based on the hierarchy table.

Resolution

To resolve issue, the author of the message store provider must set the following MAPI property on the message store provider entry in the messaging profile during installation of the provider:
Name: PR_LEGACY_FOLDERTREE_BEHAVIOR
Identifier: 0x3420
DataType: PT_BOOLEAN
Note If the property is set to true, Outlook 2010 displays the folders in an order of the rows in the hierarchy table, as the earlier version of Outlook 2010 does. If the property is set to false, the folders are display in an order that Outlook 2010 defines.

Then, apply the following update:

2405793 Description of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package (outlook-x-none.msp): October 26, 2010

The author of the message store provider uses an entry in the mapiscvc.inf file to set the new property. For more information about the mapisvc.inf and its role in configuring MAPI information, visit the following Microsoft website:
