INTRODUCTION

Issue that this hotfix package fixes

  • Microsoft Outlook 2010 does not display the domain name and user name for the first time logon user when you are prompted for your logon credentials. This issue occurs even when you have set the UserName and LogonDomain registry keys in the previous Office Outlook versions.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

After you apply the hotfix in this article, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:
  • Windows XP and Windows Vista
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
    4. Type DefaultUserName, and then press ENTER.
    5. In the Details pane, right-click DefaultUserName, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type your user name, and then click OK.

      Note Changing the DefaultUserName value is optional. If you do not specify a value for DefaultUserName, the credentials dialog box is populated with the specified domain name and a backslash (\) character. In this situation, you can manually input the user name into the credentials dialog box after the backslash.
    7. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
    8. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
    9. Type DefaultLogonDomain, and then press ENTER.
    10. In the Details pane, right-click DefaultLogonDomain, and then click Modify.
    11. In the Value data box, type your domain name, and then click OK.
    12. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
    13. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    14. Type DisplayDefaultDomainUserName, and then press ENTER.
    15. In the Details pane, right-click DisplayDefaultDomainUserName, and then click Modify.
    16. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

      Note The DisplayDefaultDomainUserName value is required as it triggers this new behavior provided by the hotfix.
    17. Exit Registry Editor.

  • Windows 7

    This hotfix functions differently on Windows 7 clients. For Windows 7 clients, there are two methods to enable this hotfix:
    • You have to configure all three registry values related to this hotfix.
      1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
      2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
      3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
      4. Type DefaultUserName, and then press ENTER.
      5. In the Details pane, right-click DefaultUserName, and then click Modify.
      6. In the Value data box, type your user name, and then click OK.
      7. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
      8. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
      9. Type DefaultLogonDomain, and then press ENTER.
      10. In the Details pane, right-click DefaultLogonDomain, and then click Modify.
      11. In the Value data box, type your domain name, and then click OK.
      12. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
      13. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
      14. Type DisplayDefaultDomainUserName, and then press ENTER.
      15. In the Details pane, right-click DisplayDefaultDomainUserName, and then click Modify.
      16. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
      17. Exit Registry Editor.

    • If you do not want to specify a value for DefaultUserName, you have to use the following registry data:
      1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
      2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
      3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
      4. Type DefaultLogonDomain, and then press ENTER.
      5. In the Details pane, right-click DefaultLogonDomain, and then click Modify.
      6. In the Value data box, type your domain name, and then click OK.
      7. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
      8. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
      9. Type DisplayDefaultDomainUserName, and then press ENTER.
      10. In the Details pane, right-click DisplayDefaultDomainUserName, and then click Modify.
      11. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
      12. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\RPC
      13. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
      14. Type EnableWin7NegoEx, and then press ENTER.
      15. In the Details pane, right-click EnableWin7NegoEx, and then click Modify.
      16. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
      17. Exit Registry Editor.
Note After you log on Outlook successfully one time, the domain and user name are stored and retrieved with the messaging profile information that is stored in the Windows registry. The previous registry data is only used when there is no existing domain and user name in the messaging profile information. Therefore, the registry data from this hotfix is typically used only one time.
