When viewing event logs remotely from Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, source is missing on Application, System and Security logs

Symptoms

When attempting to view remote Event Logs using Eventvwr.msc from Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 to a newer version of Windows, the event logs may not show the source of the events. This will occur if the target machine is Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
