Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) site that is configured to require client certificate authentication or server certificates and Basic authentication.
  • You have a client computer that is running one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
    • Windows Server 2008 SP2
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • You use the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDav) protocol to access some Microsoft Office documents that are hosted on the site from the client computer.
In this scenario, the documents are opened as read-only, and you cannot access the documents.

Note
The issue occurs if you have a hotfix that contains an update for the mso.dll file and that is released after the update that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 981715 is installed.
