NLB does not differentiate correctly between virtual IP addresses and dedicated IP addresses for ISATAP addresses in Windows 7, in Windows Server 2008 R2, in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When a Network Load Balancing (NLB) node tries to establish a connection to an IP version 6 (IPv6) resource by using Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol (ISATAP) in Windows 7, in Windows Server 2008 R2, in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008, the connection gets load balanced unexpectedly.

Additionally, if an IPv6 client tries to connect to the dedicated IP address of an NLB node, the IPv6 address is converted to an ISATAP address, and the connection gets load balanced.

Cause

This issue occurs because NLB does not correctly differentiate between virtual IP addresses and dedicated IP addresses for ISATAP addresses.
