How to Download the Update

To download and install this update:
  1. Browse to the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Click Download Now!, click Save this program to disk, and then click OK.
  3. Click Save.
  4. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Xl9p1pkg.exe file.
  5. Click Yes when you are asked whether or not to install this update.
  6. Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
  7. Click OK when you see the message that indicates that the installation was successful.

How to Run the Update in Quiet Mode

Use the /q switch to run the update in quiet mode. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box and then click OK
path\xl9p1pkg /q
where path is the complete path to the folder in which you downloaded the file.

How to Update an Administrative Installation of Office with This Update

To install this update to your administrative installation point for Microsoft Office 2000:
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type the following command in the Open box and then click OK
    path\xl9p1pkg /c:"ohotfix9 /a"
    where path is the complete path to the folder in which you downloaded the file.
  3. Click Yes when you are prompted to install the update.
  4. Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
  5. In the Select the administrative package to update dialog box, type the path to the Data1.msi file on your administrative installation point.

    A Windows Installer dialog box appears.
  6. Click OK when you see the message that the installation of the update was successful.
If you have workstations that are running one or more components of Office from the administrative installation point, you need to follow these steps to install the fixes on the workstation and update the local Windows Installer package:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box
    msiexec /i Admin Path\Data1.msi REINSTALL=EXCELFiles REINSTALLMODE=vomus
    where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for Office 2000.

    NOTE: EXCELFiles is case sensitive. Type it exactly as shown.
  2. Click OK to the message that setup was completed successfully.
  3. Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer.

How to Determine Whether the Update Has Been Installed

To determine whether the Excel 2000 SYLK File Security Update has been installed, check the Excel.exe file for the attributes listed in the following table:

NOTE: The version number is not correctly updated in the About Microsoft Excel dialog box (click About Microsoft Excel on the Help menu).
