More Information

Issues that are fixed in this hotfix rollup package

This hotfix rollup package replaces all the previous hotfixes that are described in the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
974266 Group Policy Preferences client-side extension hotfix rollup

943729 Information about new Group Policy Preferences in Windows Server 2008
This hotfix rollup fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • You cannot create a Group Policy Preferences folder when the target path is a Distributed File System (DFS) path.
  • Item-level targeting for the security group does not recognize nested groups for computer objects.
  • When you configure item-level targeting for Group Policy Preferences to match a registry value, the match fails.
  • The Group Policy Preferences data source name (DSN) requires a password if a user name is specified in the DSN connection information. After you apply this hotfix rollup, you can use a blank password in the DSN connection information.
  • You experience a significant delay when you log on to an Active Directory site that has a read-only domain controller (RODC). This issue occurs when you implement Item-Level Filtering for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) by using Group Policy Preferences.
  • Group Policy Preferences cannot be deployed on a printer when the printer owner is not specified as "System" or "Administrators."
  • When you configure item-level targeting for Group Policy Preferences by using Terminal Services, item-level targeting fails.
  • A memory leak occurs in the Group Policy Preferences client every time that item-level targeting is processed.

File Information

The English (United States) version of this hotfix rollup uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the hotfix rollup. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Important Uninstalling this rollup package de-registers the Group Policy Preferences client-side extension. This breaks Group Policy Preferences processing. Therefore, before you apply this fix, make sure that you do not have to uninstall the fix. If Microsoft releases a software update that resolves this problem, this article will be updated with additional information.
