The EdgeTransport.exe process crashes if the pipeline tracing feature is enabled together with a redirect transport rule in an Exchange Server 2007 environment


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment:

  • You enable the pipeline tracing feature for your email address on a Hub Transport server or on an Edge Transport server.
  • You send an email message to a recipient that has a redirect transport rule configured on a Hub Transport server for the recipient’s email address. This rule redirects all incoming email messages to another address.

In this scenario, the EdgeTransport.exe process crashes. Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2530488 Description of Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3
