FrontPage does not open a web via HTTP by default. You must specify the HTTP protocol in the Open Web or New Web dialog box. This can also be referred to as a server-based web.
Open a Web Using the HTTP Protocol
- On the File menu, click Open Web.
- In the Open Web dialog box, type the URL for the web you want to open in the Folder name text box.
For example, type: � http://<servername>/<webname> - Click Open.
- If you are accessing a web located on a remote server, you will be prompted for a user name and password. Type the user name and password and then click OK.

Editing a Web on a Server That Is Located Locally
- You are not required to connect to the Internet to edit the web.
- No user name and password are required to open the web, unless you are using FrontPage Personal Web Server.
- You must connect to your Web Presence Provider to publish your web.
Editing a Web on a Remote Server
- Editing your web remotely requires you to submit a user name and password.
- Internet connection is required to access the remote server. This means you need to connect to your Web Presence Provider (WPP).
- When you edit a page directly on the remote server, changes are made automatically without the use of the Publish feature.
