The aspect ratio of an ASF file is lost when you try to select a different audio stream for the file in Windows Media Player in Windows 7 or in Windows Vista

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In Windows 7 or in Windows Vista, you use Windows Media Player to open an ASF media file that has one video stream and two or more mutually exclusive audio streams. However, if you select a different audio stream during the ASF file playback, the aspect ratio of the file is lost unexpectedly.

Note ASF files typically have .wma or .wmv extensions.

Cause

This issue occurs because ASF files do not reset the media type tracker when the file is reused after playback.
