The cost of a finished good that is created in "Bill of Material" is less than expected in Microsoft Dynamics SL

Symptoms

  Consider the following scenario in Bill of Material in Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0:
  • You create a new bill of material in the Bill of Material Maintenance (11.250.00) screen.
  • During production entry in the Component Entry (11.011.00) screen, you add an additional inventory ID that has a valuation method of LIFO, FIFO, or Specific Cost ID to the bill of material.
  • In the Production Entry (11.010.00) screen, you change the value in the Handling box to Release Now, and you click the Finish button.
  • You print the Inventory Valuation (10.620.00) report or the Inventory Trial Balance (10.630.00) report, and you examine the finished good.
In this scenario, you notice that the cost that is calculated for the finished good inventory ID is less than you expect. You expect the cost that is calculated to be the sum of all costs that went into the bill of material, and this cost should include routings, overhead, and the total cost of the components.
