The BizTalk, master ENTSSO, and MSDTC resources may require a long time to be brought online or are not bought online in BizTalk Server 2006 R2 if the BizTalk group moves to another node

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2-based cluster configured in a domain.
  • The cluster has the following two groups:
    • A BizTalk group that contains a BizTalk host resource, a master Enterprise Single Sign-On (ENTSSO) resource, an IP resource, and a Network Name resource.
    • A Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) group that contains a MSDTC resource, a disk resource, an IP resource, and a Network Name resource.
  • You move the groups from one cluster node to another cluster node. Or, you shut down the cluster node that has the groups, and then the resources of the node fail over to another node in the cluster.
In this scenario, the BizTalk, master ENTSSO, and MSDTC resources may require a long time to be brought online. Therefore, the resources are in an Online Pending state and might not be brought online.

Cause

This issue occurs because no dependency relationship exists between the BizTalk host resource and the master ENTSSO resource. Therefore, the cluster may try to bring online the BizTalk host resource before the cluster tries to bring online the ENTSSO resource, and blocking occurs between the BizTalk, master ENTSSO, and MSDTC resources.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, add a dependency relationship between the BizTalk host resource and the master ENTSSO resource that are in the same group.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Cluster Administrator, right-click BTSSvc$BizTalkServerApplication in BTS Server Group, and then select Properties.

Note BTSSvc$BizTalkServerApplication is a placeholder for the name of a BizTalk host resource.
  2. Click the Dependencies tab, and then click Modify.
  3. On Modify Dependencies page, select entsso in the Available Resources list, click --> to add the entsso resource to a list of the dependencies, click Next, and then click Ok to close Modify Dependencies page.

Note entsso is a placeholder for the name of the ENTSSO resource.
  4. Click Ok to close the Dependencies page.
Note If the group has multiple BizTalk host resources, repeat these steps for each BizTalk host resource.
