ConfigMgr 2007 Asset Intelligence: Excel crashes while converting MVLS spreadsheet to XML 2003 format

Symptoms

MVLS License statements must be converted from XLSX format to XML 2003 format for properly importing Software Licenses into the Asset Intelligence (Import Software Licenses node).  If the name of the XLSX is too long or has special characters included it can cause Excel to hang and crash during the conversion process.

Cause

Appears that the filename length and usage of special characters in the filename of the spreadsheet causes this issue to occur.

Resolution

Shorten the filename of the original XLSX spreadsheet and/or remove any special characters from the filename then proceed to save/convert the spreadsheet to XML 2003 format.
