Program hangs during unload with SSL-secured connection

Symptoms

If you use a program that dynamically links to a DLL dynamic-link library (DLL), which connects to a secure server using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and using Wininet.dll APIs, the program may not unload properly and may stop responding (hang).

Resolution

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
