Remote Path Variables are not expanded in File Server Resource Manager

Symptoms

When using the File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) in a Windows Server 2008 R2 Environment, some variables may not be expanded correctly. This may be seen with the following variables:

[Quota Remote Paths]

[Source File Remote Paths]

[File Management Remote Paths]

Cause

During system startup, the File Server Resource Manager service requests the share information from the Server service. The File Server Resource Manager service stores this information for later usage, and requests the share information every 60 minutes from the Server service.

If the Server service need more time during startup or is not available to process this request during startup, the File Server Resource Manager service has no share information and therefore the variables cannot be expanded.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, change the Startup Type for the File Server Resource Manager service to Automatic (Delayed Start).
