Symptoms

When you start or quit Microsoft Excel, you receive an error message similar to the following:

Cause

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • A file named Pdfwrite.xla is in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Xlstart folder on your hard disk.

    -and-

  • You have upgraded to Microsoft Excel 2000 from Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0 or earlier.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, remove the Pdfwrite.xla file from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Xlstart folder on your hard disk.
