Symptoms

When you attempt to insert a Microsoft Map into your Microsoft Excel worksheet, you receive the following error message
The Microsoft map data file EUROPE.IND was not found.
and Excel inserts a blank Map object into your worksheet.

Cause

This problem occurs when you try to create a map using data that represents a region for which Microsoft Map does not include a map.

In earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Map included the following maps, which are no longer included in Excel 2000:
  • Europe
  • World Countries

Resolution

To resolve this problem, copy the following files from the \Os\Msapps\Datamap\Data folder on your Microsoft Office 97 CD to the C:\Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Datamap\Data folder on your hard disk:
