If you are authoring on a Web server, the database features are available only if the following conditions are true:
- The Web server is configured to use Active Server Pages.
- The Web server has version 4.0.2.2717 (or later) of the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.
All the Web servers that are available with the Microsoft Windows NT 4 Option Pack have native support for Active Server Pages. Microsoft Internet Information Server on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional has native support for ASP. Internet Information Server (IIS) 3, Microsoft Peer Web Services 3, IIS 5.1, IIS 6.0, and Microsoft Personal Web Server version 1 can support ASP after the ASP add-on is installed.
Asp.exe is also available on the FrontPage 98 CD in the
\60 Minute Intranet Kit\60 Minute Intranet Kit\Modules
directory.
Complete database functionality is only available if the Web server also has Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1 (MDAC), FrontPage 2000, or Office 2000 installed.
To download MDAC 2.1 or a later version, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Note MDAC 2.1 is also installed with the FrontPage client software or Office 2000.
If you are authoring a disk-based Web, the database features are available; however, they will not function until the Web is published to a Web server as previously described.
If you have used the
Page Options dialog box to clear the
Active Server Pages check box, the
Database menu item will not be available even if the Web server you are editing on can support it.
The
Database menu will not be available if your Web server is running Chili!ASP. Yet, browsing ASP pages is available.
For more information about how to use Chili!ASP and FrontPage, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
