Access 2010 may crash when you use sorts or calculated totals, or when you switch views by using pivot tables

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a computer on which you are running Microsoft Access 2010, you install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 November Community Technology Preview Feature Pack. Or, you install the PowerPivot add-in for Excel.
  • In Access 2010, you use sorts or calculated totals, or you switch views by using pivot tables.
In this scenario, Access 2010 may crash.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall SQL Server 2008 R2 November Community Technology Preview Feature Pack or the PowerPivot add-in for Excel.
  2. Locate the following files:
    • Msolap100.dll
    • Msmdlocal.dll
    • Msmgdsrv.dll�
    • Msolui100.dll
  3. Rename these files as follows, respectively:
    • Msolap100.dll.old
    • Msmdlocal.dll.old
    • Msmgdsrv.dll.old
    • Msolui100.dll.old
  4. Use the Microsoft Office 2010 installation wizard to repair Office 2010. After you do this, the DLL files are reinstalled.
