A red "X" appears on the work item node when you use an application that is not in the excludedUserAgents setting to connect to TFS 2010


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure the work item tracking (WIT) system on Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010.
  • You enable the filterClientMetadata setting.
  • You list some applications which will make use of metadata in the excludedUserAgents setting.
  • You use an application that is not in the excludedUserAgents setting to connect to TFS 2010.
In this scenario, a red "X" symbol appears on the work item node unexpectedly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the following hotfix on the application tier of TFS 2010.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 installed.

You have to restart the computer after you apply the hotfix if the affected files are being used.

More Information

If the filterClientMetadata setting is set to true, client metadata is filtered based on the permissions of the user. By default, this setting is set to false.

The excludedUserAgents setting is a colon-delimited list of strings that may appear in the User-Agent HTTP header of the request from the client.
