FIX: You cannot find the output file when you test a BizTalk Server 2006 R2 or in BizTalk Server 2009 map in Visual Studio 2005

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a BizTalk map by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 on a computer that is running Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 or in BizTalk Server 2009.
  • You reference an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) schema in the BizTalk map.
  • You set the "TestMap Output" setting to "Native" in the Property Pages dialog box of the map.
  • You test the map in Visual Studio.

Note For detailed instructions about how to test a map, refer to the "More Information" section.

In this scenario, you receive a message that resembles the following in the Output window:
Test Map success for map file <path of the map file>. The output is stored in the following file: <path of the output file>
However, the output file does not exist in the path that is described in the message.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in the EDI Schema Extension. When you set the "TestMap Output" setting to "Native" in a map, a temporary XML file is produced. Then, the EDI Schema Extension converts the file to native format. However, the EDI Schema Extension does not locate the temporary XML file correctly.
