You experience delays of up to 60 seconds when you use a multiprocessor computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to read or write lots of data to a storage device that is connected by using a 1394 port

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a multiprocessor computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • A storage device such as a hard disk is connected to the computer by using a 1394 port.
  • You perform many read or write operations to the storage device.
In this scenario, you may experience data access delays of up to 60 seconds.

For example, you copy a 4 GB file to the storage device by using Windows Explorer. In this example, the copying process stops responding intermittently for up to 60 seconds.

Cause

The issue occurs because of a race condition that occurs when an I/O request to the storage device is queued on a multiprocessor computer. When the race condition occurs, the request is never sent to the device. After 60 seconds, the request is retried.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2" on the page.
