Remote WMI Query may fail with the following error:

Failed to connect to \\<Server Name> because "Win32: the parameter is incorrect."

Cause

The DCOM Listener on the remote server is not functioning properly.

Resolution

Recreate the DCOM Listener. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Launch DCOMCnfg.exe as an administrator
2. Expand Component Services
3. Expand Computers
4. Right-click My Computer- select Properties
5. Select Default Protocols atab
6. Select the Connection-oriented TCP/IP entry and click Remove
7. Reboot the Server.
8. Launch DCOMCnfg.exe as an administrator.
9. Expand Component Services.
10. Expand Computers.
11. Right-click My Computer - select Properties.
12. Select Default Protocols tab.
13. Click Add, Select Connection-oriented TCP/IP, OK.
14. Reboot the Server.
