ACC2000: Data Access Page Formatting Toolbar Does Not Affect All Controls

Symptoms

Some of the buttons on the Formatting (Page) toolbar are available, but they do not affect the Office Chart, Office Spreadsheet, and Office PivotTable controls on a data access page.

Cause

The buttons on the Formatting (Page) do not control the formatting of the Office Chart, Office Spreadsheet, and Office PivotTable controls.

Resolution

You can control the format of the objects in the Office Chart control from the Chart Property toolbox.

You can control the format of the title bar and the individual cells in the Office Spreadsheet control from the Spreadsheet Property toolbox.

You cannot change the formatting of the Office PivotTable control.

To open the Chart Property toolbox or the Spreadsheet Property toolbox:
  1. Click to select the Office Chart or Office Spreadsheet control.
  2. Click to activate the Office Chart or Office Spreadsheet control.
  3. Right-click the control, and then click Property Toolbox on the shortcut menu.

The following is a list of buttons on the Formatting (Page) toolbar that do not work on the Office Chart, Office Spreadsheet, and Office PivotTable controls:
  • Align Left
  • Align Right
  • Bold
  • Center
  • Fill/Back Color
  • Font
  • Font Size
  • Font/Fore Color
  • Italic
  • Underline

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. Click Pages under Objects.
  3. Create a new page in Design view.
  4. If the toolbox is not displayed, click Toolbox on the View menu, and then click the Office Spreadsheet control in the toolbox.
  5. Click the page to add the Office Spreadsheet control.
  6. On the Formatting (Page) toolbar, click Bold. Note that the button appears pressed in, but that the button has no effect on the Office Spreadsheet control.

  7. On the Formatting (Page) toolbar, click Center. Note that the button does not appear pressed in. As you press this button, there is no change to the Office Spreadsheet control.
