Microsoft advisory services engagement scenario - active directory rights management services deployment

Microsoft Professional Advisory Services is a support option that provides short-term, proactive, consultative support beyond break-fix product maintenance needs. This includes working with the same technician for assistance with issues like product migration, code review, or new program development and is a remote, phone-based support option. This service is typically used for shorter engagements, and is designed for developers and IT professionals who do not require the traditional onsite consulting or sustained account management services that are available from other Microsoft support options.

For additional information on Microsoft Advisory Services, including on how to engage, refer to this Microsoft web page:

Microsoft advisory services engagement

This Advisory Services scenario is designed to assist customers with a review of their AD setup and requirements to help size and deploy Active Directory Windows Rights Management (ADRMS) server.

Deployment of ADRMS is an extremely sensitive procedure. If done improperly, customers can find themselves in an irreversible and unusable state in the future. The potential for hundreds of thousands of pieces of content to be protected over time in a deployment not done in accordance with best practices can put all that content at risk. Customers new to ADRMS choosing to follow the online documentation are also at risk due to their understanding of the posted guidance which is for a specific single server install in a test environment, which not recommended for deployment in productsion. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753531(WS.10).aspx). Few people have the experience to know what things to watch out for. Deployment of ADRMS should be considered an ADVISORY issue for CSS customers.

This Pro Advisory scenario will entail a CSS Support Engineer reviewing the current AD setup. The purpose of this review is to understand the requirements, and help size the new RMS deployment. The Support Engineer will then work with the customer to configure RMS and ensure all features and scenarios are now working.
