Err Msg: IE5WZD Caused an Exception C0010000H in Module MSJAVA.DLL


Symptoms

When you try to install Internet Explorer 5, you may receive any of the following error messages:
IE5WZD caused an exception C0010000H in module kernel32.dll
IE5WZD caused an exception C0010000H in module MSJAVA.DLL
Ie5wzd caused an invalid page fault in module Msjava.dll at address
IE5WZD caused an Invalid Page Fault in module KERNEL32.DLL
IE4WZD caused an Invalid Page Fault in module KERNEL32.DLL

Cause

This behavior can occur if the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (VM) is damaged.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Restart your computer in MS-DOS mode (click Start, click Shut Down, and then click Restart in MS-DOS mode).
  2. Press ENTER after typing each of the following commands:
    cd windows\system
    ren msjava.dll msjava.old
    exit
  3. Re-run Internet Explorer 5 Setup.
If the problem persists, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the Downloaded Program Files folder.
  3. Remove the DirectAnimation Java Classes file. To do so, click the file, and then click Remove Program File on the File menu.
  4. Repeat step 3 to remove the following files in the Downloaded Program Files folder, and then restart your computer:
    • Internet Explorer Classes for Java
    • Microsoft XML Parser For Java
    • Win32 Classes
  5. Download and install the latest version of the Java VM from the following Microsoft Web site:
