The ClusterRegEnumValue function returns an incorrect return code in a Windows Server 2008 R2 failover cluster

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows Server 2008 R2 failover cluster.
  • You have some application that calls the ClusterRegEnumValue function on a cluster node.
  • One of the output buffers is too small to hold the enumerating data.
In this scenario, the ClusterRegEnumValue function returns the ERROR_SUCCESS return code instead of the ERROR_MORE_DATA return code. Additionally, the application cannot obtain correct data if the application depends on the return code to decide whether a larger buffer is required.

Cause

The issue occurs because the ClusterRegEnumValue cluster API returns the incorrect status code when more buffers are required to obtain correct query data.
