XL2000: Invalid Page Fault in VBACV10.DLL Opening French Workbook

Symptoms

When you open a workbook in Microsoft Excel, you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module VBACV10.DLL at 015f:6540733e.
If you click Close, Excel will immediately quit.

Cause

This problem may occur when all of the following conditions are true:
You installed the French object libraries for Excel 97.

-and-
You opened a workbook that was created in a version of French Excel earlier than Excel 97.

-and-
The workbook contains one or more modules.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
1.Open the workbook in a U.S. version of Excel 97.
2.On the File menu, click Save As.
3.In the Save as type list, click Microsoft Excel Workbook.
4.Click Save.
5.Close the workbook.
6.Open the workbook in Excel 2000.
Note, in order to open your workbook in the U.S. version of Excel 97, you may need to install the French Object Libraries for Excel 97. For more information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
