Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
1.Copy the entire PivotTable.
2.Select a cell in a different part of the worksheet.
3.On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
4.Click Values in the Paste Special dialog box.

More information

If you try to make a chart directly from a PivotTable and select XY (Scatter), Bubble, or Stock as the chart type, you receive the following error message:
You cannot use an XY (Scatter), Bubble, or Stock chart type with a chart that has been created from PivotTable data. Please select a different chart type.
If you open a workbook created in an earlier version of Excel with a PivotTable report and a chart made from that PivotTable, you can change the Chart Type to XY (Scatter), Bubble, or Stock chart without receiving an error message. However, if you try to change the source to the PivotTable, you will receive the message listed in the "Symptoms" section.
