View products that this article applies to.

Summary

A 32-bit installation of Microsoft SQL Server failover clustering is not supported on 64-bit versions of Windows. However, the Setup for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 may let you install 32-bit failover clustering for the SQL Server Engine and for SQL Server Analysis Services on a 64-bit version of Windows.

Note This issue does not occur in the following versions of SQL Server. In these versions, Setup blocks the installation of 32-bit Microsoft SQL Server failover clustering on 64-bit versions of Windows:
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Cumulative Update 2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012
