XL2000: Error Message When You Create a Worksheet with New Office Document Option

Symptoms

When you click New Office Document on the Office Shortcut Bar to create a new Microsoft Excel 2000 workbook, you may receive the following error message:

The program associated with the selected template cannot be started, or the program cannot use the selected template.

Cause

This behavior can occur if the Ignore other applications check box on the General tab of the Options dialog box is selected.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Start Microsoft Excel.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the General tab, click to clear the Ignore other applications check box, and then click OK.
