Symptoms

In Microsoft Excel 2000, when you run a macro that sets the StatusBar property to display descriptive text when the pointer rests over a toolbar button or menu command, you don't see the descriptive text in the status bar.

This behavior is different than Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0 and earlier versions.

Cause

The design was changed in Microsoft Excel 97, which behaves similarly to Excel 2000.

More information

In versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than Excel 97, you can set status bar text for a Visual Basic for Applications procedure, and the status bar text for the procedure appears in the status bar when you place your mouse pointer over the toolbar button or menu item that runs the procedure.

In Microsoft Excel 2000, if you have a Visual Basic for Applications procedure that has the StatusBar parameter set, the parameter is ignored.
