Summary

This article tells how to rename an embedded chart in Microsoft Excel 2000.

In versions of Excel earlier than Microsoft Excel 97, you can rename an embedded chart by clicking the chart one time, clicking the Name box, and then entering the new name for the chart. This process is a little different with later versions of Excel. Clicking a chart in later versions activates the embedded chart, and you cannot rename a chart while it is active.

To rename an embedded chart in Excel 2000, use either of the following two methods.

Rename a Chart by Using Chart Options

  1. Click the embedded chart one time.

A series of black handles (with a black outline) appear around the chart.
  2. On the Chart menu, click Chart Options.
  3. Under Chart title, type the new name for your chart.

Rename a Chart by Clicking It Two Times

  1. Click the chart title one time, wait a moment, and then click the chart title again.

NOTE: If you double-click the chart title too quickly, the Format Chart Area dialog box appears. This dialog box does not contain an option for renaming your chart.
  2. Type the new name for the chart, and then select any cell in the worksheet to deactivate the chart.
