Symptoms

When you click List Box on the Control Toolbox toolbar and place the control on a Microsoft Excel 2000 worksheet, the horizontal scroll bar may disappear.

Cause

This behavior can occur when the following conditions are true:
  • The control is linked to a cell in which the number of characters exceeds the width of the list box.

    -and-
  • You are using the List Box or Combo Box control on the Forms toolbar or the Control Toolbox toolbar.
This behavior occurs even if text in the control is truncated. Other controls on the Forms and Control Toolbox toolbars may truncate text if the text is too long, and may fail to display horizontal scroll bars that allow you to scroll through the control.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, make the control wide enough to display the contents of the linked cell.
