XL2000: Query Is Not Updated When File Is Opened

When you open a file that contains a saved query, the query is not updated. As a result, the region of the worksheet that contains the query is blank.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

�	You have saved a query in your worksheet. -and-
�	You click Refresh data on file open in the External Data Range Properties dialog box. -and-
�	You click Remove external data from worksheet before saving in the External Data Range Properties dialog box. -and-
�	You save the file in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook file format.

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

1.	Select a cell in the region of the worksheet that contains the query.
2.	On the External Data toolbar, click the Refresh Data button.

The worksheet is populated with the result set from the query. The worksheet is populated with the result set from your query the next time that you open the file. However, the query is not updated the next time you open the file.

NOTE: The Refresh data on file open and Remove external data from worksheet before saving commands are not available in versions of Microsoft Excel before Excel 98. As a result, these features are not available when you save the file in the Microsoft Excel Workbook file format.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
