    -and-

Workaround

If you add fields to a PivotTable from the OLAP server, and those fields are not part of the original local .cub file from which the PivotTable was created, you must edit the local .cub file and add the new dimensions, levels, and measures. You cannot reconnect to the local .cub file if the PivotTable contains new fields that are not part of the local data file. To edit the local data file, follow these steps:
  1. In the Client-Server Settings dialog box, click Edit local data file.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Click the dimensions and levels you want to add to your local data file.
  4. Click the items for each level in your cube and click Next.
  5. Click Finish to save the .cub file.

More information

After creating a local data file (cube) for a PivotTable, you have the ability through the Client-Server Settings dialog box to disconnect from and reconnect to the OLAP server. When creating the local cube file, you decide which items to include, and then the dimensions and measures that are currently in the PivotTable will be saved. The PivotTable only allows you to use the dimensions and measures available within the local cube file.

However, connecting back to the OLAP server will provide all of the items from the server's cube file. If you add a field to your PivotTable that was not originally saved in the local cube file, you cannot switch back from the OLAP server to the offline cube without editing the local cube file, and adding the new fields (levels and measures) to the local cube file.
