XL2000: "Too Many Line Continuations" Error When Recording a Macro

Symptoms

When you record a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications macro, you receive the following error message:
Too many line continuations.
When you click OK, the VBA Macro Recorder quits.

Cause

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You create a PivotTable that contains drop-down lists.

    -and-

  • You start to record a macro.

    -and-

  • You manipulate the items in the drop-down list multiple times during the recording of the macro.
