XL2000: Borders Published to Web Page Don't Show in Border Tool

When you publish a worksheet as a Web page with interactivity, the Border tool in the Spreadsheet Property Toolbox on the Web page may not show the borders as they are formatted in the source worksheet. Some borders may appear to be "missing" in the tool.

NOTE: The borders showing in the Web page do not actually appear to be different from the worksheet.

This behavior may occur if cells with borders share boundaries with other cells having the same border style. This problem occurs because of the way Excel writes and stores the borders in the HTML page. The tool shows the borders correctly, because the "missing" borders are turned off explicitly in the HTML code.

If the shared borders have the same width, and the cell shares a border with another cell to the right or underneath it, the tool shows the right or bottom border of the cell respectively. However, if the cell shares a border with another cell to the left or above it, the left or top border of the cell may be "missing."

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Generally, when cells share the same border style with another cell, the borders that are written to the HTML page are those from the cell on top and the cell to the left. In cases where you have applied different borders to adjoining cells, Excel retains the border applied last, and uses it the same way in both the worksheet and the Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component seen in the Web browser.
