View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You develop a webpage that uses the certificate enrollment (CertEnroll) control to release certificates.
  • You access the webpage by using Windows Internet Explorer on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You try to renew or request a new certificate from the website.
In this scenario, you cannot renew or obtain the certificate. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles one of the following:
CertEnroll::CX509EnrollmentWebClassFactory::CreateObject: Unspecified error 0x80004005 (-2147467259)
CertEnroll::CX509EnrollmentWebClassFactory::CreateObject: The operation was canceled by the user. 0x800704c7 (WIN32: 1223)
Note This issue occurs when you host the CertEnroll control in a frame element or in an IFRAME element on the webpage.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
  • The files that apply to a specific product, milestone (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:
    VersionProductMilestoneService branch
    6.1.760
    0.16xxx
    Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2RTMGDR

MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
