Symptoms

If you use a 16-bit version of Netscape Navigator 3.0 to view a FrontPage disk-based web, the page banner will appear as a broken link icon.

Cause

The 16-bit version of Netscape Navigator does not support long file names. The file name used for the FrontPage page banner is created as a long file name, not as an 8.3 MS-DOS file name. It is derived from a combination of the file name of the page and the file name of the image used by the page banner.

Resolution

To view the page banner in a 16-bit version of Netscape Navigator, publish the Web to a Web server. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In FrontPage, open the Web you want to publish.
  2. On the File menu, click Publish Web.

NOTE: If you published this Web once before, the Publish dialog box will appear. Click More Webs.
  3. In the Publish FrontPage Web dialog box, type the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the file you want to publish. For example, type the following:
    http://localhost/<Web>

where <Web> is the name of your Web.
  4. Click OK.
