You cannot use Windows 7 RSAT to connect to a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Core Hyper-V

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7.
  • This computer uses Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT).
  • On this computer, you use the Hyper-V Management snap-in to try to connect to another computer.
  • The computer to which you want to connect has a Server Core installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V.

When you do this, the connection fails. Additionally, you receive one of the following error messages:

"Your system administrator does not allow the use of saved credentials to log on to the remote computer <computername> because its identity is not fully verified. Please enter new credentials."

"No authority could be contacted for authentication"

Cause

This problem may occur on Windows Server 2003 domain controllers when you perform an authoritative restoration.This problem occurs because the version number of the Kerberos ticket-granting ticket (KRBTGT) account increases when you perform an authoritative restoration.

Resolution

To work around this problem, connect by using the Local Administrator account on the Windows Server 2008-based computer. Or, install hotfix 939820 on the Windows Server 2003 domain controllers.
