Live Meeting client cannot upload a Microsoft Word document

Symptoms

The originator or presenter of a Microsoft Live Meeting will receive the following error as they try to upload a Microsoft Word Document as shared content for their Live Meeting.

"The file can't be uploaded to the meeting because the program required to review the file is not installed or the file is corrupted. You can try uploading the file from a computer that has the appropriate program installed."

Cause

 

This issue occurs after applying the Windows security update listed in either:

MS09-073: Vulnerability in WordPad and Office text converters could allow remote code execution - KB 975939

Or

MS09-073: Description of the security update for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003: December 8, 2009 - KB 973904

Resolution

Method 1

The Microsoft Fix it solution that is listed at the bottom of KB 973904. See the More Information section of this document

Method 2

To unregister the mswrd632 converter yourself, edit the registry as follows:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
 
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text Converters\Import\MSWord6.wpc

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

Click Yes.

Exit Registry Editor.

This change will effectively unregister the converter and disable it for third-party applications and for Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office will use its own text converters to open these kinds of files.
