Collection sets running under proxy account will fail in WOW environment.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a 64-bit computer, you install an instance of the 32 bit (x86-based) version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
  • You configure a collection set to run under a proxy account.

In this scenario, the SQL Server Agent job, that is associated with the collection set fails with the following error message:

Executed as user: . Failed to connect to the configuration server.
Error details: No OLE DB error information found: hr = 0x80004005. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.

Cause

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This issue does not occur in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 environments.

Resolution

Configure the collection set using the SQL Agent Service account.
