Symptoms

When you attempt to print a Web page, you may receive the following error message:
Explorer
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you then click Details, you may receive the following error message:
Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at <address>
Note that the name of the module may vary, and the Web page may print normally.

Cause

This problem can occur when the title of the Web page contains more than 279 characters.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 for Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98.

More information

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) files may contain a <TITLE> tag that specifies the title of the Web page. Internet Explorer displays the title in the title bar of the window, and prints the title in the header of each page.
