This problem no longer occurs in Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1.

To work around this behavior, delete your network drive mappings. To do
so, follow these steps:
- Double-click My Computer on the desktop.
- Right-click one of the network drives, and then click Disconnect.
- Repeat steps 1-2 for each network drive.
You can also work around this behavior by removing the Windows Desktop
Update component. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Internet Explorer 4.0 in the
list of installed programs, and then click Add/Remove.
- Click "Remove the Windows Desktop Update component, but keep the
Internet Explorer 4.0 Web browser," and then click OK.
