Symptoms

A Java program may seem to run slower with Internet Explorer than with a Netscape browser.

Cause

This behavior can occur if the Java program uses Netscape's Internet Foundation Classes (IFC), which are not installed with Internet Explorer. As a result, the IFC files are downloaded each time the program is run.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, download Netscape's IFC classes from the Netscape Web site. The Netscape IFC library is provided with Netscape browsers. Netscape's Web page is located at the following address: Netscape's IFC classes are a library of Java classes that developers can use in creating Java programs.

Note that if your security setting in Internet Explorer is set to Medium or higher, you may be prompted to temporarily reduce your security level to download the IFC library. To do so, follow these steps:
1.In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the View menu.
2.Note the current security level setting. Click the Security tab, click Low, and then click OK.
3.Press the F5 key to refresh the page.
After you load Netscape's IFC, you can change the security setting back to its original setting. To do so, follow these steps:
1.In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the View menu.
2.Click the Security tab, click your original setting, and then click OK.
