To configure Internet Explorer to work with AOL as your ISP:
  1. If Internet Explorer is not already installed, download it from the following Microsoft Web site and install it:
  2. Install the America Online software. AOL is available on CD-ROM and from the following AOL Web site: This software installs an America Online adapter in Network properties so that you can make a 32-bit Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) connection to America Online.

    For additional information about installing the America Online client software, contact America Online.

  3. This software installs an America Online adapter in Network properties so that you can make a 32-bit Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) connection to America Online.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. This software installs an America Online adapter in Network properties so that you can make a 32-bit Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) connection to America Online.Double-click Internet, click the Connection or Connections tab, and then use one of the following methods, as appropriate:
    • With Internet Explorer 5 and 5.5:
      1. Click LAN Settings, click Advanced, and then click to clear the Use same proxy server for all protocols check box.
      2. Clear the contents of all boxes under Servers, and then click OK.
    • With Internet Explorer 4.x and Windows 98:
      1. Click Connect to the Internet using a local area network.
      2. Click to clear the Access the Internet using a proxy server check box, and then click OK.
      NOTE: With AOL 4.0, you may need to enable the Access the Internet using a proxy server option; click Advanced, click to clear the Use same proxy server for all protocols check box, clear the contents of all of the boxes under Servers, and then click OK. When you are prompted to turn off the proxy connection, click No.

    • : With AOL 4.0, you may need to enable the With Internet Explorer 3.02:
      1. Click to clear the Connect through a proxy server check box.
      2. Click OK.
  5. This software installs an America Online adapter in Network properties so that you can make a 32-bit Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) connection to America Online.Connect and log on to America Online by using the America Online software.
  6. This software installs an America Online adapter in Network properties so that you can make a 32-bit Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) connection to America Online.Start Internet Explorer.
NOTE: You cannot configure Internet Explorer to automatically dial AOL when AOL is your ISP.
