Symptoms

Map charts use data contained in hidden or filtered rows and columns. This behavior is different from a normal data chart created in Microsoft Excel.

Cause

When you create a chart in Microsoft Excel, any rows or columns that have been hidden, or rows that have been filtered that are part of the chart's selected data range do not appear in the chart. However, when you create a map chart in Microsoft Excel, all rows and columns that are in the data range are included in the map regardless of whether they are hidden or filtered.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, you must select only the visible cells in the data range that you want to chart. To select only the visible cells, follow these steps:

1.Select the range of cells that you want to create a data map from.
2.Click Go To on the Edit menu. In the Go To dialog box, click Special.
3.In the Go To Special dialog box, click Visible Cells Only. Click OK.
Only the visible cells within the range will be selected. A data map created with the currently selected cells will not use data from the hidden rows.
