How to determine whether the update is installed

To determine the update is installed on the computer, follow these steps, as appropriate for the operating system that you are running.

Windows8
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
  2. In the Apps box, type Windows update, tap or click Setting, and then tap or click View installed updates.
  3. Examine the list for Update KB982726. If the update is in the list, note its Install On date.
Note To uninstall this update, locate and click update KB982726, and then click Uninstall.




Windows
7
  1. Click Start, type appwiz.cpl in the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter.
  2. Click View installed updates.
  3. In the list of updates, locate update KB982726.
  4. If update KB982726 is in the list of updates, the update is installed successfully on the computer.

Known issues

Windows Update may return error code 646 or error code 0x80070646. This results from updates not being installed successfully from Microsoft Update or through a manual install by using the /quiet and /passive flags.

Method 1: Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer

To reset the Windows Update components automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Note This Fix it solution has a Default mode and an Aggressive mode. You should run the Fix it solution in Default mode and determine whether it resolves your problem with Windows Update before you run it in Aggressive mode.





Note This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Method 2: Manually download the update from the download link and then install it in clean boot mode
We suggest you to install the updates in clean boot mode to avoid the interruption of non-Microsoft programs. To start clean boot mode, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
  2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
  3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
  4. Under Selective Startup, clear the Load Startup Items check box.
  5. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When you are prompted, click Restart.
  8. Try to update your computer again.
