Symptoms

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 high availability introduces a new Extensible Storage Engine mechanism known as page patching. When a database corruption is caused by minor disk faults, Exchange Server 2010 page patching automatically repairs the corrupted database by using one of the database copies that are configured for high availability. This fix introduces the supports for page patching when the Extensible Storage Engine "-1022" disk I/O error is generated.
Note The Extensible Storage Engine "-1022" disk I/O error may be found in the following events in the Application event logs:

Event ID: 481
Category: Error
Source: ESE
Description:
Information Store <PID #> An attempt to read from the file "<database file>" at offset xxxx (xxxx) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed with system error 21 (0x00000015): "The device is not ready.". The read operation will fail with error -1022 (0xfffffc02). If this error persists then the file may be damaged and may need to be restored from a previous backup.
